I, Athena, feel that even though Odysseus did some bad things to get him into trouble throughout his journey, he deserved someone to help himself get to the destination that he was working to get to for 20 years. I felt the need to make him look like someone different. I did this so the suitors would never find out Odysseus was still alive. If the suitors found out, they would have been ready to kill Odysseus. This way, the suitors didn’t know he was alive and his son, Telemachus, had time to hide and lock away their armor. When Odysseus admitted it was him after shooting the arrow through the axes, the suitors had nowhere to go, nothing to fight with, and had no choice but to die that very day.
Odysseus is a very talented person. Fighting is one of his many talents and he showed it the day he had to fight the suitors. I didn’t think he could fight all of those suitors by himself. Although he didn’t, he probably could have. With Telemachus, the herder, his closest servants and people, and I helping him it made it easier and faster. He showed many skills, one of which being his ability to shoot an arrow through the axes. Even though I wasn’t there in person watching him shoot the arrow, I was watching him. Another talent of his is his ability to fight with a sword. Not only are shooting arrows hard, fighting with a sword is hard too. Those are only few of his talents.
Another thing Odysseus really impressed me with that day was when he showed that he’s a leader. He gave Telemachus a plan of what was going to happen when they got to his house. He had it set and ready. The plan was for Telemachus to hide the weapons and armor. After he did that Odysseus went to his house and made the suitors think he was just a homeless person with no where else to go. After fooling them, he surprised them by stating it was him and then fighting. He didn’t need my help at all coming up with that plan. Being a leader is a tough role to take on and he took it with no hassle. Just like he lead his men on their journey. The outcome wasn’t very well in the end, but no man is perfect. He made it all look easy, that’s how smooth it went. Being a leader is not easy though. You have to take control and do what no other person would want to do.
